Gilbert Cantu  was born March 23, 1944 in Paige, Texas to Manuel and Carmen DeLeon Cantu.  He died of injuries while working for Texas Gulf Sulphur in New Gulf, Texas on February 28, 1974.

Gilbert rode Bus 14 with Al Zepeda, John Foyt and Jane Newton Reynolds.  He was always happy and had such an infectious smile.

May he rest in peace.

I will always remember my Best Friend EVER, we were so close, our friends use to call us Heckel and Jackel.

We use to ask each other what time we were going to Church on Sundays at St Roberts so we could sit together.

I Loved my Best Friend, we were like Brothers.

Gilbert was a great person and friend.  His passing was a great loss.

I have fond memories of Gilbert.  Gilbert and I worked for Newton's Grocery while in high school and while attending WCJC.  I remember Gilbert being an enthusiastic long-distance track star.  I also remember Gilbert had an old Chevy car that was full of rusty holes.  We spent hours patching the holes with bondo so he could get his car painted, if I remember correctly, a metallic blue.

It is refreshing to see folk's sharing memories of a deceased friend.
