Marilyn Kainer Guidry

I moved from EC after graduation going to Beaumont to receive a diploma from Hotel Dieu Nursing School. I also attended Lamar University. In 1966 I married and we were transferred to eight different cities in Texas and Oklahoma as my husband worked for FDIC. I moved to Austin in 1980. I have been single 33 years and retired from TRS in 2012. I have spent my time assisting individuals with their essential medical/financial needs, enjoy travel, love to gamble, tracing my ancestry especially my Canadian background, and enjoy watching my grandchildren grow. My favorite trip was to New Zealand where I was able to tour both the North and South parts of the country. I just returned from an inside passage to Alaska in mid-June of 20016.
My parents past away 12 and 13 years ago. My brother Bobby died suddenly in December of 2016.

I moved to EC at the age of 4 living in town before Dad built a modest home in the country off RR 960 in 1950. My parents Wilfred (Peggy) and Dot, brothers Larry, Bob, and Bill and I lived there the entire time I lived in EC. I went to St. Philip's Catholic School for the first 8 grades, Our Lady of the Lake in Castroville in the 9th grade, and then 10th-12th grade at ECHS.
There were lots of neat memories I can recall from St. Philip's but the one that stands out is the Red Hill box lunches the boys bid on when we were in 7th grade. Tony Dettling and Dicky Edmonson were bidding on mine and Tony won. Mine was full of Mom's wonderful fried chicken, potato salad and a dessert. Dicky got Helen Kocian's box lunch which was full of Hersey chocolate bars.....
While at ECHS I still remember this story. The senior boys had gone snake hunting and brought lots of them to school in sacks. They proceeded to sling them around in the air and three of them landed around my neck. Needless to say I went home crying and Mom demanded an apologize which did happen immediately.
Can you imagine what would happen today if that happened at any high school?
